Flamenco Beginner or "Refresher" Workshop-If you've always wanted to learn flamenco dance or have taken classes in the past and need a refresher, this is for you! Classes will cover the following technique: footwork, upper/lower body movement and placement, movement of the hands. In addition, students will learn the cultural/historical underpinnings of the art form as well as the musical structures and communication with the other elements in a performance (singing, guitar, percussion). Classes will build on each other and a short choreography will be taught. Therefore, students must register for the full course. Sorry, no ”drop ins.” Six sessions, Thursdays, 6:30-8pm, $90 total cost ($15 a session), starting June 24.
Attire: Women/Men, a closed toe shoe with a substantial heel no more than 2” in height, long wide skirt for women; men, comfortable slacks to move in.
Movement as Metaphor and Healer-An Introduction to Dance/Movement Therapy-Certified dance/movement therapist Ana Miranda introduces the theory and practice of dance/movement therapy and its benefits. Session with be both didactic and experiential covering the history, training and current practice of dance/movement therapy, movement observation techniques, kinesthetic empathy and body/mind awareness tools utilized in the profession.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore their own metaphors in movement, discovering its wisdom for awareness and growth.
The intention of this workshop is to inspire those seeking personal growth using the powerful medium of body movement. Also suitable for health professionals, teaching artists and yoga/movement practicioners interested in enhancing their skills and service to others.
